A Little Background Story

I was born Nigerian and spent most of my childhood surrounded by love from family and friends. Until one day…

At six years old, I was involved in a car accident that resulted in losing part of my right arm and nearly losing my life. My family and I moved to the United Kingdom a few years later. Moving to the U.K. was exciting in the beginning. I had a great childhood filled with love from my family. At age 10, I was diagnosed with hearing loss, a devasting shock to my family and me. Due to both disabilities, I was a quiet and shy girl at school. I was bullied and lonely, which resulted in my losing confidence and self-belief. This went on from primary to secondary school, and I couldn’t focus on my education.

At 16, I decided to leave school and began my journey in college to study Administration because I had a dream of working in an office. Unfortunately, after one year of struggling, I failed the course. But I never gave up. I spent over a decade going back and forth to college and studying alternative courses, such as Business, Fashion and Textiles, Web design, Digital Media, and Baking; I even did a course on Radio.

AT age 21, I was a victim of rape in an abusive relationship. That same year, I got my first job at a grocery store which was a fascinating time. I used the job to overcome my ordeal and build my confidence. AT 23, I found out I was pregnant, and three months later, I was diagnosed with HIV. My world was crushed. Everything that I loved and worked hard for was destroyed. At 24, I gave birth to a beautiful, healthy baby girl – Sasha – Ann. Then my life changed forever.

From A Struggling Single Mother To A Successful, Independent Young Woman

Where most single parents struggle to feed themselves and take care of their kids, I saw it as an opportunity to begin the process of personal growth and life reinvention. When my daughter was three years old, I reflected on myself, where I have been, where I am now, and where I want to be in the next ten years. I dug out my old scrapbook from childhood and found a diary I kept as a teenager in which I shared all my thoughts about what was happening in life at that moment.

I read everything, and I realised how strong I am. It was like a moment: ‘ If I did go through all that I wrote about, then Sonia, you are a strong woman.’ That was when I decided that I deserved happiness, my daughter deserved a chance to have a happy life, and I was the only one who would make it happen.

I decided to return to college in 2017 to study Administration at an introduction level – and I never looked back…

In 2018, I started this blog – Life With Sonia.

Within a year, everything changed, and I began to gain more confidence in myself and my parenting skills. My daughter was a very bright and healthy little girl. The blog was slowly progressing as I didn’t know much about blogging. I just knew that I have always considered writing one of my most vital strengths because it has been a way to express myself better, and I have background knowledge in web design. I also wanted to support other single mothers who may be going through the same difficulties as me by sharing my story.

Fast Foward To Where I am Now

Life has been busy. I am in my last year of college and in love with the only handsome man I have ever seen. My daughter is doing great. She’s happy and loves having fun with her friends. She’s into fashion and crafts. She is also working on becoming an author and running her fashion business. I am very proud of her. I started a business with the Juice Plus Company and currently working on starting a Virtual Assistant Business.

The blog is doing so well. I have had successful partnerships with several female entrepreneurs who have shared their stories with me on the blog. You can check them out here >> Interviews <<. We have Successful contributions from Experts and CEOs sharing their knowledge and expertise on various subjects in Properties Investments, Paralegals, Health and Fitness, Business, Skin-care, Empowerment etc. You can check them out here >> Guests Posts <<

Women Empowerment: Why It Matters and How to Achieve It

Women empower themselves when they have the courage and strength to be their own best advocates. They can achieve great things, from taking charge of their career paths to inspiring positive change in their communities. But building and sustaining a sense of empowerment isn’t always accessible — ensuring we have the skills, resources, support systems and opportunity to reach our goals is crucial for success. In this blog post, we’ll explore why women’s empowerment matters, what impedes it, and how personal agency can help women take control over essential elements of life, such as education and health outcomes. Ultimately, nothing is more empowering than cresting those waves with confidence; read on for tips on how to claim your power!

What is Women’s Empowerment, and Why Is It Important?

Women empowerment means promoting women’s abilities, skills, and confidence so that they can make important decisions regarding their own lives. It is essential because women are crucial in shaping society and communities. Empowering women is necessary because it helps break down stereotypes and discriminatory practices towards women, which have been prevalent for far too long. Empowering women also increases the potential for economic growth by creating jobs and improving productivity. Additionally, it fosters a more inclusive and equitable society where both women and men have equal opportunities to reach their full potential. It’s important to remember that women’s empowerment is a process, not an event, requiring everyone to work towards achieving it.

Breaking Down Barriers to Women’s Empowerment

Women’s empowerment is a vital issue that needs our attention. Breaking down barriers that hinder women from realizing their potential is a step towards achieving gender equality. We must create a world where women can thrive without fear of discrimination, lack of opportunities, or violence. Women empowerment is not just a theory but a practical approach that can change our societies significantly. We must create an environment where women can freely access education, employment, healthcare, and political participation. It’s time to turn words into action and work together to break down the barriers that hold women back. Together, we can empower women and, in doing so, empower our entire society.

Strategies for Creating Change

Creating change can be daunting, but it can be a rewarding and fulfilling experience with the right strategies. One practical approach is to start small and focus on achievable goals. This can help build momentum and create a sense of accomplishment. Another strategy is to involve others in the process. Collaborating with like-minded individuals can bring fresh perspectives and ideas to the table and provide support and accountability. It’s also important to be open-minded and flexible. Change often requires trial and error, so being adaptable and willing to adjust course can significantly increase the chances of success. So, whether you’re striving for personal growth or seeking to make a difference in your community, these strategies can help you create meaningful change.

How You Can Make a Difference in Everyday Life

There’s no denying that our world could use a little more love and compassion. It’s easy to become overwhelmed by the world’s magnitude of problems and believe there’s no way one can make a difference. But that’s not true at all! Creating change starts with small actions, and every one of us has the power to impact those around us positively. Holding the door open for a stranger, volunteering at a local charity or simply offering a smile to someone having a bad day can make all the difference. Don’t underestimate the power of your actions, no matter how small they may seem. Let’s all work together to create a little kinder and more compassionate world daily.

The Benefits of Empowering Women in Your Community

What if we told you that empowering women in your community can have a domino effect of positive change? It’s true! When women are given the tools and resources they need to succeed, they are more likely to invest in themselves and their families. The benefits of empowering women are extensive, from increased access to education and healthcare to more significant economic opportunities. And the ripple effect doesn’t stop there – empowered women are more likely to become leaders and advocates for change in their communities, inspiring others to do the same. So let’s all work together to empower the women around us and watch our communities flourish.
