All about my first job. Hey guys, I hope you are well. In today’s post, I will be sharing a storytime. I am going to talk about the time I got my first job. This was the happiest I have ever been in my life was back in 2012 when I got my first ever employment. After years and years of unsuccessful job applications – my whole world changed in November 2011. I left school in 2006, when I was 16 years old and moved out of my parents’ house in 2009, while I was studying in college, I was also job hunting and living on welfare.
All About My First Job
Living On Benefit
Living on the benefit was very depressing. I hated it so much, I was still studying just to get out of the house. I was 19, still young and everything, I should not be living like that. Yes, some people would say life is better on the benefits because you get everything for ‘free’. However, what people are unwilling to understand is that the world changes every year, and they’re still growing, and benefits life is not free forever.
While the friends and family you made on benefits are finding solutions to their problems and changing their lives, eventually, you, who is still in the benefits, will be left behind due to unnecessary arguments with your friends and family, which will then lead to misery. When you get to that stage, you will investigate something that will help ease the pain of loneliness and abandoned – that is called Addiction.
That is when your life is ruined (however, it does not mean you cannot come out of it and get your life back on track), and then you will find out that life ends up eating you up, all because of the ‘free’ lifestyle. I am grateful nothing like this happen to me.
Coming Out Of The Benefit
So, I was on the benefit until middle 2011, when I got contacted an organisation called Remploy. Remploy is a company that assist people with disabilities to get into work. Every week up until I got the job, I had to visit Remploy to discuss my job hunt progress, some Q&A, received some advice about what my next step should be etc. The more time I spent with my officer, the more I started to gain confidence and believe in myself.
One day an opportunity came up, and thanks to my officer, my name was up on the list. Sainsbury’s was advertising for a Customer Services Assistant, I had no hopes for the position because I had previously applied for the company and got an unsuccessful letter. However, my officer encouraged me to stay positive and have an open mind about the position. Guys, I am so happy I listened.
I Got The Job
Sainsbury’s contacted us for a meeting and we agreed on a trial position, due to my lack of confidence. I was super nervous and excited about the news. The fact that they accepted the trial, it felt like I already had the job. So, I did the trial and was successful, everything turned out right, the managers were impressed, I got the Job!!!
I made lots of friends and made connections with the customers that they became my friends too. The best thing about working with Sainsbury’s was that I was able to bring out the best version of me. I was ‘MYSELF’ and the customers loved me just the way I am. Also, you get to meet with a different type of people from all sort of background.
I was there for 2 years as I had to leave due to pregnancy with my daughter.
I hope you enjoyed the storytime guys.
