The First Of Many

The First of Many. Hello everyone. I hope you are well. In today’s post, I will be a reflection log on my Graduation Day – the first of many. Yes, last week Tuesday was my graduation day for HNC (Higher National Certificate) Administration and Information Technology. Honestly, it’s been a week, and I am still in shock. After 16 years of education failed to get to where I am; this was honestly the proudest day of my life.

The First of Many

I honestly don’t know what to say. Dreams do come true. I feel so proud of myself for working hard to achieve my goals. My daughter and my (step) dad were my guests. My daughter was very proud of me, as she’s been very excited about this day since I told her about the event.

Sadly, my mum, my little sister, and my man couldn’t make it because they are all based in Nigeria. My younger brother couldn’t make it either because he was working. Nevertheless, they were all there in spirit (as mum puts it).

Graduation Day

The whole day was long but also short. I had a class in the morning and a meeting later in the afternoon. I managed to get to the ceremony hall on time and took my certificate, and had a great time celebrating my achievement with my daughter and dad.

Due to covid, there were not many guests in the hall. Everything was timely and well organised.

The event was filled with much entertainment, a live performance from a previous student, and quest speeches from the CEO of Peterson, who started her journey with college. My family and I even got featured in our local newspaper.

Afterwards, we went home, ordered some Chinese takeaway and had some champagne. Overall, it was a good day.

Giving Thanks

There are a lot of people who I would like to thank for their support over the past few years. First, I want to thank God for making this day possible. Trust me; I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for him. I have not been paying attention to my Christianity lifestyle, but I know he has my back.

My family

My daughter, you are everything to me. If it weren’t for my sacrifices, I wouldn’t be here. Sasha-Ann, as a mum, I hope I have done you proud. I hope I have inspired you to know that no matter what life throws at you, never give up on your dreams. I dreamt of a better life for myself and you. We are heading in the right direction.

My darling hubby-to-be, we did it, baby!! Throughout this journey, you have been my best friend, biggest supporter, and my partner in crime. Our relationship was tested repeatedly, but we are still here and madly in love than ever. You kept consistent by providing me with extra support on difficult questions. We stayed up all night together working together, and you would not stop until the work was complete. Thank you for everything.

My mum and dad, what can I say? Thank you for believing in me. Constantly pushing me to become a better person, always motivating me and sharing ideas about ways I can grow and be independent.

College

All the lecturers at college, you have been outstanding the past year. I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for the extra support and understanding provided to me due to my learning difficulties. You have restored my faith in the education system. You guys are amazing. Thank you so much. I also want to thank the college for giving me a lifetime of chances to reach my goal.

To all my blog and business supporters, thank you for coming through and keeping the energy going.

Finally, I want to thank me. Thank me for believing in me and not putting in all the hard work. Thank me for keeping the dream alive regardless of what people say.

What’s Next for me?

I am still in college, completing Higher National Diploma in Administration and I.T., which will be done by June 2023. I have options now to either apply for university for two years, take a break from education and start my family, or Start a Virtual Assistant Business or an E-Commerce Business. Or I could do it all at once. Job hunting isn’t an option for me at all. I enjoy working for myself, and it fits well with my lifestyle.

If you are thinking about returning to education, my advice is to apply with an open mindset and a hunger to succeed. If you want something, remember no one is coming to give it to you. Go for it. No matter what you go through, life will go on, and the choice is yours. You either ride along with your own rules, or you stay behind. Understanding this, It doesn’t stay night forever; the sun will surely rise again and when it does, live your life to the full.

I hope you enjoyed that.

Talk soon.
